Missal Cravings!

Nothing better than having missal pav and watching the rain pour from the balcony! A super easy Maharashtrian recipe which you leave you sitting there licking your fingers and craving for more!


2 cup matki, sprouts
¼ tsp turmeric
½ tsp salt
1 cup water
2 tsp oil
2 inch ginger
1 onion, finely chopped
2 clove garlic
¼ cup dry coconut
¼ cup water
3 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp red chilli powder
¼ tsp turmeric
1 tsp coriander powder
2 tsp sugar
½ tsp salt
5 cup water
Bombay mixture
Onion, finely chopped
Coriander leaves, finely chopped
Pav (as desired)


  • Pressure cook matki until 3 whistles
  • Put ingredients for masala paste in a blender and make a paste
  • Take a kadhai and heat 3 tbsp oil and add 1 tsp mustard & 1 tsp cumin
  • After they splutter, add the masala paste from the blender and put all the spices (turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder)
  • Cook the masala paste until oil is released
  • Add the cooked matki beans along with the pressure cooked water to the masala paste
  • Add 2 tsp sugar and mix it well. Add water as needed.
  • Cover and boil for 10 minutes or till oil starts to float above the mixture
  • Squeeze lemon juice to the mixture as needed
  • Serve with onions, coriander and Bombay mixture (farsan)
